“Competition whose motive is merely to compete, to drive some other fellow out, never carries very far. The competitor to be feared is one who never bothers about you at all, but goes on making his own business better all the time.” — Henry Ford
In 1995, Michael Jordan shocked the world when he announced that, out of his sudden retirement from the NBA the previous year, he would be pursuing a career in minor league baseball. The public was baffled: why would such a successful man – arguably one of the best basketball players in the world – make such a sudden, post-retirement career change?
As a basketball player, Jordan was constantly looking for ways to improve, to beat his personal records. And while he may have retired from the game, his mindset hadn’t changed. He had the same eagerness to grow and learn, regardless of the respect and accolades he had already earned. A new career goal was a way of creating a new challenge for himself and developing new skills.
Shooting for Continuous Improvement
You don’t have to be a world class athlete to leverage that mindset. It applies just as well to business and personal goals.
With record-breaking sales and customer satisfaction levels at an all-time high, it would easy for us to sit back and say we’re good enough. But at Roscoe, we hone our processes and practices against a standard of continuous improvement. That means constantly competing against ourselves to do better. It’s not enough for us to do a better job than other work uniform providers. We want to do a better job for the clients who tell us they couldn’t be any happier. It’s nice to hear, but we don’t believe it. There’s always room for improvement.
That’s more than a slogan for us – it’s built into the culture at Roscoe, for a number of reasons.
For one thing, competing against other work uniform providers can be a low bar in many cases. Many of our clients have been through bad experiences with big national uniform companies: uniform shortages, mystery billing and customer service that never quite lived up to the promise. That’s not the model we want to compete against. Our customers are some of the hardest working people in the Chicago area and they deserve a work uniform partner that works as hard as they do. Not just one that does a little better than their last provider.
Has Your Work Uniform Provider Scored any Points Lately?
There’s something in it for us too. Working toward a standard of continuous improvement is an important part of the pride we take in our work. And who doesn’t want to do a job they can be proud of? A culture of continuous improvement is a culture that creates a better place to work for all of us. It’s the difference between a job and a career. It’s the difference between having employees and having a team. And it’s the difference between just running a business and providing solutions to your customers’ problems. And at Roscoe, it’s a difference we can show you.
If your work uniform provider hasn’t scored any points with you recently, you have the wrong work uniform provider.
