The Chicago mat company recently did a profile of one of our team leaders reaching her 20th year with Roscoe. She has and is impressed that the uniform services company invests in its people. We believe that if the people that make up your business are given the proper resources and skill-building, it will improve the quality of the organization in all aspects.
Through one of the associations the uniform rental company is a part of, Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA) we have been able to equip many of our team members to be stronger leaders. TRSA offers a four-year program aimed at professionals in the textile services industry serious about developing their management and leadership skills.
Textile Rental Services Association has Great Management & Leadership Building Program
It is a one-week program, once a year, filled with team-building, coaching and problem-solving sessions. Participants discuss work challenges with other industry colleagues and share what has worked or not worked for them. This industrial laundry has always been a supporter of sharing with our network any insight on techniques, processes and problem solving that have worked for us, and EMI (Executive Management Institute) is a great extension of that.
The Chicago uniform company has sent over 25 team members through EMI, including current president, Jim Buik and previous president Don Buik. Currently, Roscoe has three of our wonderful people going through the program at various levels. Our Office Team Leader, Barbara Bailey-Polk recently attended as a first year and had a great experience overall saying, “EMI is about developing managers and leaders which requires “stepping outside of the box” and changing your behavior. The camaraderie and participation of everyone involved provided applicability in the workplace”.
EMI Builds Long-Lasting Relationships & Real World Applicability
That’s perhaps the biggest takeaway: taking what you learned from your peers and instructors and immediately applying it to your operations to produce a positive and impactful change. Furthermore, the relationships participants build is immeasurable. Most who have completed the program say they have made lifelong friends and established solid relations with industry mentors. Having a network of people who are faced with the same problems and situations, but that can also provide solutions is priceless.
This four-year EMI program offers a great training program with college-level coursework in the following areas:
- Conflict management and constructive discipline
- Strategic planning
- Delegation and resource management
- Effective communications
- Coaching and performance
- Team building and problem solving
- Personal and interpersonal development
- Ethics and diversity
- Financial management
- Marketing/sales
- Customer service
