Hands down, the Roscoe Chicago Uniform Company team is the best. It is through them that we are able to provide exceptional customer service, quality products and stay true to our values.
On top of that, the uniform services team is completely dedicated, allowing Roscoe to have the highest averaged tenured team members in the industry. Therefore, in 1957 the 20-Year Club was born recognizing members for their hard work. Every fall the mat rental company hosts a dinner where active and retired team members meet to induct and celebrate members who have been with Roscoe for 20 or more years.
This coming November, we are inducting three new members in the 20 Year Club, joining the 150 team members who have been a part of it throughout Roscoe’s history.
Production Team Leader Gets Inducted in the Uniform Services 20-Year Club
Among them is Miriam Avila, the uniform services Production Team Leader. Avila’s story is quite interesting and begins in 1994 when she was hired as a Scan-Out Operator in Production. A couple years later a national trade association called Uniform & Textile Services Association or UTSA (of which Roscoe was a founding member) decided to invest in the front line operators and created a certification program called Skills Certification. This program taught production members various jobs and skills to make it easier to move them to other positions. Avila became the first in the nation to be certified at Level 1 and eventually Level 2 by mastering many areas in production. Through this, she moved up to Peer Trainer, Floor Supervisor, Production Manager and now her current position.
Roscoe is one of a handful of laundry services operators who continued with the program due to its countless benefits. While it does take a lot of time and the process is slow because it disrupts from regular responsibilities, team members feel a sense of appreciation from the time and money invested in them; taking on the additional responsibilities with pride.
The Uniform Company Strives to be Leader in the Industrial Laundry Industry
Avila said, “The best part about Roscoe is the sense that you are part of the family, Jim and previous owner Don Buik, always took the time to invest in their team and made sure that you feel and see that”. Even in the little things, like walking through the plant and making sure everyone is greeted by their first name. Avila also went on to say that,“Roscoe was my school, here I learned many skills through classes, workshops, conferences and management and leadership programs like EMI(Executive Management Institute). I have had the opportunity to travel with other production managers and participate in many of the associations the uniform rental company is a part of. Now I get to share with others what I’ve learned.”
Another point Avila made was that people look up to me and she is constantly giving suggestions and advice on what has worked at Roscoe. This industrial laundry has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and strives to be the first in improving the way things are done whether it be technology, equipment, people, programs or the environment. “The fact that others in the industry are able to learn from us all the time is what makes Roscoe so great and shows it really cares about its people.”
As for Avila, as she is entering her 20th year with the Chicago uniform company she said she is going to take it 20 years at a time. From all of us at Roscoe our warmest thanks and congratulations for being such an integral part of the uniform services company and for the success you contribute day in and day out.
Take Pride!
