Stretching is an important part of the continuous improvement process – sometimes literally, as when we implemented pre-shift stretching for our team members on the advice of a safety consultant.
Metaphorically speaking, stretching is how we ensure that we are constantly upping our game when it comes to providing the highest quality service for our customers and protecting the health and safety of both our customers and our team members.
“When a company is ISO-certified, it’s an immediate respect factor. (Our prospects and customers) know the time and dedication it takes to stay ISO certified.” – Roscoe Sales Team Leader Graham Johnson.
Third-party certifications are key to that effort, providing a value that goes far beyond being able to hang a plaque on the wall, and even beyond the specific requirements of any individual certifying standards. Subjecting our services and processes to the scrutiny of third-party experts is how we hold ourselves accountable to the standards we set for ourselves and find new ways to keep raising the bar.
Recognized Standards of Consistency and Commitment
Our customers and prospects recognize that – in part because many of them hold themselves accountable in the same way. That’s especially true of our ongoing program to maintain certification under ISO 9001:2015 – an internationally recognized quality management standard for process excellence that requires rigorous documentation and assessment, as well as ongoing internal and external audits.
Roscoe Sales Team Leader Graham Johnson sees this recognition firsthand when prospects or new customers learn that Roscoe processes come with the stamp of ISO 9001:2015 certification.
“That’s a hallmark,” Johnson says. “When a company is ISO-certified, it’s an immediate respect factor. They do know the time and dedication it takes to stay ISO certified.”
Roscoe is one of the few independent laundries to have such a robust system of internal and external audit and assessment processes.
Continuous Improvement and the Rigor of Third-Party Review
Roscoe’s Textile Retail Services Association (TRSA) Hygienically Clean certification is another “source of confidence to clients and prospects,” Johnson says. “People want to know ‘How are you keeping us safe?’ It’s a whole broad bacteria and germ focus that has come to the forefront of importance to companies in the age of COVID-19.”
Another certification that requires third-party review is the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification, a widely recognized standard in the food processing and health industries that also imposes strict regulations for elimination of bacteria and the prevention of cross contamination. The review includes regular third-party microbial testing of garments.
A commitment to environmental sustainability is also important to our customers, who like doing business with a uniform provider that has been recognized as both a repeat winner of the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award and TRSA Clean Green certified since 2012.
And about that stretching program? It’s part of our certification under OSHA’s Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), a designation based on exemplary workplace health and safety practices.
Prospects and customers familiar with the criteria for obtaining this designation “are super impressed,” Johnson notes.
But perhaps the biggest reason our customers like to see all of these third-party certifications, Johnson says, is that they recognize the consistency required to earn and maintain them.
“The number one complaint I hear from prospects about other work uniform providers is that the service is not consistent,” he said. “One week it will be great; the next week it falls down the tubes.”
That’s a huge problem for a business to have with any vendor, but when it’s your work uniform provider, the problems can go straight to your bottom line.
