The Chicago uniform company recently discussed shortages and repairs as part of a series outlining the common industry issues and how Roscoe works to reduce and eliminate these disruptions. Today’s post will feature replacements. If replacements are not handled properly, it could very well lead to shortages which is quite the hassle.
Roscoe has a system in place that catches when a garment needs replacement, reduces the need for replacement and protects you from unwanted charges.
First, the uniform rental company inspects all garments internally, during processing and by Route Service Representative. Before a product is even brought back for washing, a dedicated Route Service Rep will inspect soiled garments and tag them if he notices a worn out garment. Once it is brought back to our facility, the uniform rental company has 8 different check points that a garment must go through before it is ready for delivery. Roscoe has an open book game where production Team Members are rewarded if they find a garment in need of a replacement or repair.
Other things that happen to a garment while it is being processed to reduce the need of replacement:
- Garments are separated not only by account, but by fabric/soil level. This reduces cross-contamination so a heavy-soiled garment does not get mixed with a light-soiled garment.
- Specific wash formulas based on types of garments. We told you we treat each garment uniquely. This extends the life of an executive shirt by using a milder formula that won’t beat up the fabric.
- The uniform rental company’s state of the art finishing system allows us to put the majority of our garments through a steam tunnel instead of in a dryer.
Garments wear out, that’s why Roscoe prorates uniforms 100% over a 48 month period. If a garment needs a replacement prior to garment’s life cycle (equivalent to the manufacturer’s recommendation of 100 washes) you will not be expected to cover the full value if it has at least one year of use. Through bar coding and RFID tracking, the uniform rental company is able to know how long a garment has been in service even if it was transferred from one wearer to another.
As an alternative to prorating, a company that has unusually high turnovers or extremely dirty jobs can insure their uniforms through Roscoe’s garment maintenance program. This covers a customer against any replacement charges so you are able to budget expenses and not worry about a spike in invoice. Now that’s peace of mind.
Furthermore, you can decide what wear level to assign your account and a wearer specifically. These customer specific standards can amount to huge cost savings because you decide how often garments will be replaced and what blemishes are acceptable.
Finally, the uniform rental company employs the One More Time Program in which a Team Member identifies a garment that needs replacement, tags it, sends it back to the wearer with a card attached indicating that a new garment is ordered and the old garment will be pulled automatically when the new garment arrives. Out with the old, in with the new.
