The summer is a great time to get out into the fresh air and play some golf. This month you can help support a good cause at the same time by joining us on July 25 at the 18th Annual “In Search of a Cure” Golf Event sponsored by Teamsters Local 731 and Joint Council 25.
The event, which has raised more than $6.2 million over the past 17 years, helps fund a variety of programs for children with autism spectrum disorders. Last year, the event brought in $635,000.
Popular Event Expanded to Include Four Golf Courses
The event has grown so much over the years that it has expanded to four courses: two at the Silver Lake Country Club in Orland Park, one at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont and a fourth at Old Oak Country Club in Homer Glen, according to Roberta Lester, Teamsters Local 731 office manager and bookkeeper, who organizes the event each year.
There will be two foursomes on each hole for the tournament, which is open to all who wish to attend. The cost is $300 per golfer and is usually sold as a foursome.
Sponsorships are available for individual holes and a cocktail hour. The tournament includes a raffle and concludes with a dinner at the Silver Lakes Country Club.
The Teamsters started the charity in 2001 and named it in honor of Teamsters Local 731 President Terrence J. Hancock’s son Bryan, who lives with autism.
Proceeds to Benefit Chicago-area Autism Organizations
The fundraiser primarily benefits the Easterseals Serving Chicagoland and Rockford’s Terrence J. Hancock Family Campus in Chicago.
Proceeds also help support the Special Olympics Illinois, the Special Olympics Chicago, Little Friends and other autism-related charities.
Autism spectrum disorder affects one in 59 children in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Roscoe Route Service Representatives Among Local 731 Members
Roscoe’s route service representatives are proud members of Local 731 and at Roscoe, we are proud to have been able to participate in this event over the years. As in years past, we will be providing the event’s 120 volunteers with knit golf shirts embroidered with the event logo.
