While we take pride in the quality of our laundering processes and the cleanliness of our work uniform rentals, we’ve embraced the concept of hygienically clean – not just for the medical, food processing, food service, and hospitality industries, but hygienically clean for all.
By the end of 2017, we expect to be Hygienically Clean Certified by the TRSA and we are now almost fully complete with our implementation.
What Is Hygienically Clean?
Hygienically Clean refers to the standard created by the Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA) whose purpose is to develop quality criteria for the production and certification of hygienically clean reusable textiles. Compliance with this standard is based on documentation of laundry best management practices, microbial (bacteriological) testing, and facility inspections.
Any business can be highly conscientious about the sanitation of their work practices and need reassurance these do not contribute to human illness. TRSA’s Hygienically Clean certification helps achieve this objective by ensuring textile products laundered for industries across the economic spectrum meet key disinfection criteria.
Roscoe’s Hygienically Clean Implementation
In 2017, we created a strategic initiative to implement the hygienically clean standard and to be certified as such by the TRSA. While the standard can seem overwhelming at first, we discovered that, because of our current HACCP procedures in place and ISO certification, we were about 80% or more there to start.
However, becoming hygienically clean has changed the way we think and operate, even with simple housekeeping tasks. We’ve now built into our process a variety of new procedures to prevent cross contamination: from separating bags and work uniforms during transport to taking the extra step of sanitizing tables, baskets and carts instead of just using soap and water.
While being hygienically clean adds time to our process, especially on the clean side of laundering work uniforms (only minor changes on the soiled end), this will not delay deliveries to our customers as we run 2-3 days ahead of schedule now. As part of the TRSA’s Hygienically Clean Certification, all production team members will be skill check certified and cross-trained.
Adding Value
The vast majority of work uniform rental services and commercial laundries do not adhere to the hygienically clean standard, let alone are certified. For us, this is yet another way we add value for our clients above and beyond what they may expect. This is why all of our work uniform rental laundering will be done this way for all customers—at no extra charge—and not just for those in food and medical.
