Regarding our washing process and the cleanliness of the linen, towels and work uniforms that we provide to our customers, below you’ll find some background information on our process, external audits and independent lab results.
Elimination of Pathogens
The manner in which laundering chemistries and wash products are employed within the Roscoe’s laundering process is critical to producing a clean fabric. The effects of an industrial washing process on reducing microbial load have been well studied. The control of microbial bioburden on garments and linen within the food processing industry is of prime concern due to the possible presence of pathogens. As such, many of the studies which have been performed on the effects of an industrial washing process have been performed under the most critical of parameters.
Eliminating the Risk of Microbial Spread
Roscoe’s washing process relies on many mechanisms to remove soils from the assorted wash classifications. These same mechanisms which function to remove soils also act to remove microorganisms, including:
- The numerous steps of a wash formula act as a source of continual dilution
- The elevated temperatures of a wash cycle act to increase the solubility parameters of the water and increase the permeability of the garments or linen
- The alkaline detergents and builders function to saponify fats and denature proteins
- The use of a chlorine bleaching operation on white fabrics has been shown to further remove organic materials and is a known sanitizer
- Terminal finishing chemistries will directly kill and inhibit any remaining microbial load
- Laundered garments are subjected to a terminal finishing operation which will include either drying, tunnel finishing or pressing
The overall impact of the collective wash operations is a reduction in the bioburden level of processed textiles to a point where there is no significant risk of microbial spread.
Wash Process Auditing by Gurtler
Roscoe’s wash process is audited by Gurtler Industries using a titration process that verifies our formulas are effective and pH neutral by the end of the cycle. In addition, as part of our HACCP process, garments and linen are tested periodically for the presence of pathogens by an independent lab.
Recent audits by Gurtler verify our formulas are pH neutral and lab test results reflect the cleanliness of our garments and linen products.
The Final Step: Garment Inspection
In addition to all of the above, our team members inspect all garments turned in for processing to make sure they’re returned to our customers in not only a clean condition, but also delivered with a finish and in an overall condition that they themselves would be proud to wear.
Cleanliness standards in the food processing industry are more stringent than most, but it’s good to know that Roscoe has processes in place to make sure we’re delivering clean products back to our customers regardless of industry.
