While Roscoe, an independent, family owned uniform rental company, has benefited from strategic planning since 1982, we have driven implementation of those plans to new heights with its use of KeyneLink™.
Introduced to the tool by Bruce Hodes of CMI, a consultant with extensive experience in corporate planning and team building, the Roscoe uniform rental company has benefited from a substantial improvement in the execution of plans ranging from improved customer satisfaction and retention to profitable growth in targeted markets.
The KeyneLink execution management process is a holistic approach to strategy-driven execution management. Strategy-driven execution management is about managing the accomplishment of organizational initiatives and the strategic plan. KeyneLink gives an organization at-a-glance, real-time visibility into exactly what’s happening with goals, initiatives and communication in the organization so that team leaders can effectively manage the implementation of the strategic plan.
Foundation
The process starts with the organization developing a foundation that incorporates its Vision, Mission, Initiatives and Core Values. Unlike the lofty statements that hang in the lobby of many organizations, Roscoe’s Team Members start the KeyneLink process by acknowledging the foundation elements and confront them when conducting performance reviews monthly. Individual goals are linked to initiatives, creating a clear path between cause and effect.
Performance Agreement
The second key element of KeyneLink is the Performance Agreement which includes a team member’s Primary Job Responsibilities, Individual Goals, Tasks and monthly Progress Meetings. Primary Job Responsibilities contain the core elements of a team member’s job and unless his/her responsibilities change, they remain consistent from year to year. Individual Goals are rooted in Action Plans that the team member develops during the strategic planning process. Individual Goals contain a measurable objective, individual responsibility and deadlines. Tasks support the attainment of an Individual Goal, providing the detailed steps that lead to a successful outcome. The final and most important element of the Performance Agreement is monthly Progress Meetings. While you would think regular meetings with a structured agenda is the norm at a business; that is not always the case. KeyneLink provides the vehicle for dialogue among Team Members at the Chicago uniform company to stay focused on executing the Foundation and Performance Agreement.
How does the KeyneLink process help Roscoe manage its strategic plan?
Operationalizing Your Strategic Plan
The KeyneLink process helps this uniform rental company link planning with the execution of a strategic plan. Team Leaders and members work together to connect department and individual goals to the organizational initiatives. As a result, KeyneLink ensures complete alignment between the strategic plan and all the goals down to an individual level.
Communication
At the core of the KeyneLink process is ongoing communication and feedback, two characteristics that have proven time and again to be the keys to successful execution management. Not only does the process help team leaders communicate the strategic plan to the rest of the organization, but it also allows them to lead and guide team members down the road as they travel. When communication takes place regularly, there’s no need for a formal appraisal at the end of the year. Instead, at the end of the year, Team Leaders at Roscoe can easily tie up loose ends and distribute rewards.
