Dart Container, the world’s largest manufacturer of foam cups and containers, comes from humble beginnings in Mason, Michigan. It manufactured goods for the Department of Defense, including key rings, steel tape measures and dog tags. Today, it boasts a global corporation with 20 plants in 6 countries and over 7,500 employees. Dart produces more than 600 quality single-use products and packages worldwide for the food service, retail/consumer, and food packaging industries.
Dart Container truly evolved when William A. Dart perfected an expandable polystyrene (EPS) molding process in 1960 which led to the insulated foam cup that they are known for now. Since then, they have been the leading manufacturers of single-use products. Single-use products result in a lot of waste, therefore, in 1990 Dart introduced an innovative recycling program for specific container types. They have created drop-off boxes for consumers to utilize and the collected material is made into pictures frames, moldings or other objects.
With the recent purchase of Solo Cup in May 2012, Dart has new challenges ahead while continuing to integrate the two companies. They now have double the manufacturing and employees, amounting to 15,000, and are in the process of easing into distributing the Solo line at their plants.
With such a large operation, it might come as a shock that it is still currently family-owned. Current owners, and brothers, Bob and Ken Dart are still very much involved in the business and with their employees. Dart is also involved in their community.
The Dart Foundation offers grants to the communities that serve as homes to its production facilities and offices. Specific to Illinois, they are involved in Lazarus’ House in St. Charles and Hesed House in Aurora by offering forks, knives, spoons and other needs.
With so many similarities it is no doubt that the Chicago uniform company services Dart. Roscoe has been family-owned since 1921, is an innovator in its field, especially in regards to sustainability, provides charitable contributions in our communities that we service (United Way, Angel Tree, Job One), and our owner of the uniform rental company is highly-involved in day-to-day operations, communications with prospective and current customers, and with our team members.
This uniform rental company provides Dart with uniforms to their 50 wearers. They have said that “Roscoe actually cares how the uniforms of their wearers look.” Their previous supplier would return uniforms with huge tears in them. But, if their current Route Service Representative, Xerxes, who has over five years experience, sees any uniform with a hole in it, “he immediately replaces it, because he actually cares about their needs.”
The Chicago uniform company is proud to service an organization that shares similar values and upholds their business at a higher standard. If Roscoe can help a company achieve its goal, we will have achieved our mission.
