When we powered up our new auto-sorting system at the beginning of this year, we ushered in a new era of work uniform rental excellence, capping a 10-year capital improvement plan that provides our customers with a level of service unmatched in the industry.
Now that’s how you start a new year!
Taking Customer Service to the Next Level
Our new auto-sorting system is second-to-none in the industry – anywhere in the world. It gives us the capacity to sort and track up to 3,000 work uniform garments an hour with pinpoint accuracy and automation that puts the human touch where it belongs – in thorough quality inspections at the beginning and end of the process. It sets the stage for us to continue to grow our market share over the next decade, with unmatched customer service.
Using the most sophisticated equipment in the industry, our new system moves freshly cleaned uniforms along an overhead conveyor system that reads ultrahigh frequency (UHF) tracking tags and sends garments through the process of repair, inspection, bundling, and route sorting – within 24 hours of their arrival.
With UHF tracking, we know where each uniform is for every customer. This prevents garments from being misplaced or lost, so we avoid the work uniform shortages that plague other work uniform rental providers.
Team Effort Brings State-of-the-Art Technology to Roscoe
It wasn’t easy. We crossed the country – and then the ocean – to scout state-of-the-art-technology. We consulted engineers. We hired masons and carpenters to move walls, take out ceilings and replace floors in our 100-year-old facility.
Finally, we began the process of pulling out the 16,000 pounds of metal that made up the old sorting machinery, which had to be completely removed for the installation of the sleek new Kannegiesser garment auto-sorting system. And it all had to happen without any interruption of service.
Like everything we do here at Roscoe, it was a team effort that resulted from extensive research, strategic planning and a carefully plotted tactical execution. We even practiced runs of sorting garments manually by hand so we were ready for the six-week period in which the previous sorting system was pulled out and the new system was installed. That was fun…
Luckily, we had an excellent partner with Kannegiesser, the world leader in industrial laundry technology. Their planning, attention to detail and commitment to training was a solid fit with the Roscoe culture. Like Roscoe, Kannegiesser is also a multi-generational family business. We also had a solid plan, developed by Turn-Key Engineering back in 2007. We utilized technology partners like Positek RFID, which provides the UHF scanning technology, and Alliant Systems, which provides integrated route accounting software.
